Infant & Toddler Childcare in Long Beach
At Long Beach Day Nursery, we provide a secure and stimulating environment for your child’s critical first years.
Our Infant and Toddler Programs, proudly serving the Long Beach community, meet the holistic needs of the whole child, successfully preparing them for the academic and social transitions required for preschool and beyond.
What Defines the LBDN Infant & Toddler Curriculum?
Our educational methodology is grounded in the understanding that young children are active, sensory learners who learn by doing. Our degreed teachers and professionally trained caregivers implement our Emergent Curriculum, which is planned and adapted based on the observed interests and developmental progress of the children in our infant and toddler rooms.
This approach fosters intrinsic motivation and an enduring love for learning. Our structured framework includes:
-

Early Literacy
Language acquisition through intentional verbal interaction, storytelling, and songs.
-

STEM for Infants
Foundational exploration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics via safe sensory and manipulative play.
-

Social & Emotional Growth
Cultivating secure attachment, trust, and early self-regulation skills through responsive care.
-

Music and Art
Facilitating creative expression and auditory/tactile exploration.
-

Physical Development
Safe, sensory-rich opportunities for free movement while supporting emerging motor milestones to build body awareness, balance, coordination, and independence.
What is Special About Our Infant & Toddler Program?
Optimal Low Ratio
We maintain an exceptionally low 1:3 teacher/child ratio for infants and 1:4 for toddlers. This commitment to low ratios ensures your child receives the highest amount of attention and allows our teachers to develop deep, responsive relationships—a key factor in early brain development.
Early Intervention Program (EIP)
We proactively identify developmental challenges. Our EIP provides a critical service through structured observations, developmental assessments, and targeted intervention strategies for children identified with special needs or developmental delays.
Primary Care Group (PCG) Model
To build meaningful and lasting relationships, each infant and toddler is assigned to a specific Primary Care Group (PCG) with a primary teacher. The primary teacher learns the specific needs of the PCG and shares that information with co-teachers so that the children’s needs are always met. The PCG will stay with their primary teacher until they transition.
Quality, Safe Learning Environments
Our infant and toddler classrooms are intentionally designed to be calm, clean, safe, and developmentally stimulating. They offer a secure setting with ample opportunity for skill expansion.
Working in Partnership with Parents
Partnering in Your Child's Journey
We fundamentally believe that the best possible experience we can offer a child requires a strong, collaborative partnership with parents. At Long Beach Day Nursery, parent involvement isn't just encouraged—it is a cornerstone of our organization and is intertwined in our programming and daily operations.
Fostering Trust with Primary Caregivers
Our commitment to partnership is solidified through our Primary Care Group (PCG) format. This structure is designed to encourage parents to form long-term, trusting relationships with their child’s dedicated caregiver. This continuity ensures you have a consistent, familiar professional who knows your child's temperament, routines, and developmental progress intimately.
Communication and Daily Reporting
To keep you fully connected to your child's experience, LBDN provides thorough and consistent communication. Parents receive a daily report detailing essential information, including feeding times, nap schedules, diaper changes, and key activities or milestones achieved throughout the day. This commitment to transparency ensures you are always informed and engaged in your child’s development.
“I have one child who went here from 10 months old until she was 5. I have another one currently there, and has been there about 2 years now. BEST daycare/school I have seen. Very friendly staff, wonderful learning environment, and very clean!”
